All the Feels: Three Days of Relaxation
Even on vacation, it’s not easy to let go of life’s daily stresses. Fortunately, Southwest Florida has perfected the art of the relaxing beach vacation. Explore long-weekend getaway ideas, from where to take a mind-clearing beach walk to the best spots to catch an incredible sunset and delightful destinations to watch wildlife in action. It just feels right to rediscover your calm center and unlock your best self.
Day One
Coastal Calm and Culture in Fort Myers
Begin with a quiet stroll through the riverside grounds of the Edison and Ford Winter Estates. The garden blooms and gracious homes will instantly put you at ease; seek out the shade of the massive banyan tree that was planted by Thomas Edison for a truly peaceful moment. Fun fact: You can stretch out with a yoga class on the estate grounds every Monday and Wednesday at 10am.

No need to rush out in the morning. Brunch at The Standard Restaurant at Downtown Fort Myers is served seven days a week until 3pm, and Ella Mae’s Diner offers Southern-inspired comfort food until 2pm every day.
Head into historic downtown to browse the art galleries and start your souvenir hunting. Don't miss The Franklin Shops for an eclectic mix of jewelry, clothing, artwork, gifts and more. If Etsy had a department store, this two-story shopping emporium would be it. You're sure to find something that's both fabulous and one of a kind.
When dining downtown, fresh seafood is always the star attraction, so choose a meal at your leisure: like the briny oysters and seared ahi tuna at Izzy’s Fish & Oysters or tender lobster at Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls. Or for a view of the Caloosahatchee River that's as delightful as the cuisine, try Oxbow Bar & Grill.
If you're visiting during the winter months, take a quick trip to Manatee Park, where gentle giants float in the warm waters. Their curious, friendly demeanor will have you laughing in no time.

Just before golden hour, head to Lighthouse Beach Park on Sanibel Island’s southern tip or head to Fort Myers Beach for unbeatable views. Shades of orange and gold mark the beginning of another perfect sunset, and you’ll find yourself watching wordlessly as the colors deepen into brilliant hues until the sun disappears into the horizon.
Day Two
Natural Island Treasures
Sanibel Island is one of the best spots in the world for collecting seashells, and Bowman’s Beach Park is a quieter stretch that rewards early risers. Take a slow beach walk and let the rhythm of the waves clear your head as you find colorful treasures.

Late morning is the perfect time to catch nature in action on a hike or scenic drive at J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge. See the mangroves and estuaries that are home to roseate spoonbills, dolphins and the occasional manatee. Tarpon Bay Explorers opens up a whole world of easy adventure within the refuge, with naturalist-led kayaking tours and an informative wildlife tram tour.

End the day with a beachfront feast complete with fruity cocktails and more marveling at the sunset. Sanibel Island favorites include Doc Ford's Rum Bar & Grille and Gramma Dot’s on the marina; Captiva Island restaurants include beloved The Green Flash and the historic Old Captiva House. The beauty of these secluded shores is that they’re also free from a lot of light pollution, making them excellent spots for stargazing. Take a walk on Turner Beach for a dazzling glimpse at the night sky.

Day Three
Bonita Springs and Estero Bliss
Bonita Springs resorts are renowned for their spa treatments that will both relax and rejuvenate for a perfect start to your day. Try a light-touch massage or an organic facial at the Spa at Shangri-La Springs, and enjoy a post-spa meal at Harvest & Wisdom, featuring fresh farm-to-table dining and ingredients straight from the garden. Stillwater Spa & Salon at Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa offers a tranquil respite with a menu of spa treatments. Follow it up with a beachy seafood feast at Tarpon Bay.

For a low-impact adventure, go paddleboarding or kayaking through Lovers Key State Park’s calm inland waterways. Considered one of the most pristine barrier islands, this park has two uninterrupted miles of beach and a mangrove-protected estuary where you might just spot manatees and dolphins at play.
Cool off indoors at the Promenade at Bonita Bay or head to nearby Estero to shop around for deals at Miromar Outlets. Riverside Park in the heart of downtown Bonita Springs promises beautiful sunset views, and you might just stumble into an evening concert or festival.

When hunger strikes, kick back with a cocktail and a meal at Coconut Jack's Waterfront Grille (don’t fill up before ordering a slice of Key lime pie!) or dine outside at Doc’s Beach House. The vibe is always chill, and the views of the beach, sunset and even frolicking dolphins are spectacular.
